Vote-by-Mail has become a hot issue in Sayreville recently. Here’s the deal:
- You may opt to vote by mail for the upcoming election by submitting an “Application For Vote By Mail Ballot” to the County Clerk’s Office by October 29, 2019. Then they send you the actual ballot to cast your vote. You can personally return the ballot to the County Board of Elections before the polls close on Election Day, or mail it. If you mail the ballot it must be postmarked no later than Election Day and must be received at the County Board of Elections within 48 hours after the polls close.
- Once you apply for a Mail-In Ballot, you will not be permitted to vote by machine at your polling place for that election. If you’re unable to return the Mail-In Ballot you can vote at the polling place by going through the process of submitting a paper provisional ballot.
- If you requested a Vote-by-Mail ballot for any elections from 2016 thru 2018 then you are enrolled to automatically receive Mail-In Ballots for all future elections which means you must vote by mail. If you decide you want to return to voting by machine at the polling place, then you must complete a Vote by Mail Removal Request and return it to the County Clerk’s Office no later than high noon Friday 9/20/19.
